An unexpected sollution for hot sleepers - caloric restriction
I’m one of those people who can’t sleep as soon as the temperature goes above 22C/72F.
Up until now the best solution when it gets too hot, is to either:
- Sleep somewhere else where it is cooler (e.g. on the ground floor or outside)
- Get some sort of air flow (using a fan)
Neither of these works well for me. If I try to sleep on the ground floor, there’s never proper black-out, so I wake up at 4am and struggle to go back to sleep.
And the airflow seems to be disturbing (both the noise and the sensation). It takes few days to get used to it, and by that time the weather usually improves.
This time around, I randomly realized that I can sleep in much hotter weather without a problem. And what is different is that I’m doing a 300-500kcal caloric restriction. I only realized that on the day when I ate my normal calories, and I was super hot during the night.
I don’t know why I didn’t think about it earlier as I do clearly remember that after about 18-24 hours of fasting, I get very cold. Aka my body happily tunes down thermogenesis when there’s no excess of calories.
So far I worked on multiple days with bedroom temperatures of up to 26C, so it is a great success. Maybe it helps someone else as well.
